Summary
Adam and Eve have two sons, Cain & Abel. God accepts Abel’s offering, but rejects Cains for some reason. Cain gets angry and takes Abel into a field and kills him. God gets upset over this, telling Cain his brother’s blood cries out to him from the ground. So God banishes him and tells him he’ll never grow another crop.
Cain takes this hard since he’s a farmer, so he tells God his punishment is too great and that someone will kill him. God tells him not to worry, and that if someone kills him they will experience seven times his punishment.
So Cain goes out and has has some kids with his wife, and his kids have kids, etc. Three important kids are Jabal, the first herdsmen, Jubal, the first musician ,who created the harp and flute, and Zillah, the first metal forger.
Adam and Eve then have another son, Seth. The family line continues to Noah. By the time Noah is around God has grown tired of us humans because everything we do is evil. In a nutshell all we want is sex. Because God is tired of us, he says we don’t live past 120 years.
He then decides to undo his creation, killing every human, animal, and bird. He says he’s sorry he ever made us, but then sees the one person on the Earth that is following him, Noah. So he decides to wipe out all the wicked people instead, and tells Noah to build a boat.
On this boat he tells Noah to put 2 of every animal, male and female, and gives him design specs for it. God tells Noah this boat will protect him and his family, plus the animals.
My Questions
Genesis 4:24 Who was Cain afraid would kill him? How many people were there at this point?
Genesis 4:26 Had no one worshiped God prior to Seth’s time?
Genesis 5:24 Did God take Enoch to Heaven?
Genesis 6:3 There are documented cases of people living over 120 years.
Genesis 6:17 God says “Every living thing will die,” but allows Noah, his family, and two of every animal to survive. Why say every thing if it’s not?

Not sure that the 120 years thing is supposed to be taken absolutely literally as a cap, but maybe more as a general declaration of the range we won’t get far past. I don’t pretend to be a scholar on this. FYI, you also have to deal with the fact the the bible itself documents cases after this verse of people living longer then 120, such as Abraham (175) and Issac (180) to name a few.
